My Approach to Exercise as Medicine
utilizes proven set and repetition ranges

I provide Exercise as Medicine which is specialized movement and strengthening exercises specific to your condition and challenges. I am a National Strength and Conditioning Association Certified Personal Trainer (NSCA-CPT). I graduated from Fitness Institute International in Boca Raton, Florida, as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist. Fitness Institute International has been offering excellence and integrity in Education for over 40 years. The training that I received there prepared me for my National Certification.

About Exercise As Medicine


Baring disease, accidents, body insults or structural abnormalities, many times pain can be a result of weakness…your body may not have enough strength or joint stiffness to support your body weight during specific movements during your daily life.

Exercise: physical activity that is planned, structured and repetitive for the purpose of conditioning any part of the body. Exercise is used to improv health, maintain fitness and is important as a means of physical rehabilitation. TheFreeDictionary

Medicine: the science dealing with the preserving of health and with preventing and treating disease or injury. Cambridge English Dictionary.

Exercise: muscle hypertrophy which is the enlargement of muscle fibers from the increase in the size of the cells. There are specific sets and reps to safely get stronger. All life is Transfer of Forces whether it be walking, reaching into the cabinet to get a glass or the basic effort of breathing…all transfers of force. The stronger you are the more efficiently you can transfer forces in daily life (getting up from a chair, painting a wall, etc.), thus the less prone you are to injury or fatigue.

Medicine: on medical prescriptions, you may see PRN. That stands for, “pro re nata” which translated means “as needed”. The same specific to your complaints exercises that you will perform to build strength, flexibility and endurance will serve as

Specificity: the quality of belonging or relating UNIQUELY to a particular subject. The unique-to-you exercise will be prescribed to specifically address the weakness that may be at the cause of your complaint.

WHO

Seriously, I ask my patients, “Its going to be 10-20-30 years from now… do you want to be the person HELPING a friend or loved one from the car or dinner table or the one BEING HELPED from the car or dinner table? It’s the old Use It or Lose It.

WHAT

Specific repeated movements that result in increased strength and flexibility. Many people realize a reduction or elimination of their pain. The exercises are prescribed based on your history of injury or complaints. You may have trouble with activities of daily living (ADLs). It's not necessary to be recovering from an accident.

WHERE

With the current Social Distancing and gym closures along with the Carbon Dioxide considerations from exercising while wearing a mask, you can I perform the prescribed Exercises at home. Some corrective Exercises can be performed at your desk at work or even on your ride home.

All that is required is floor space with a chair and a desktop or dining room table. If you have dumbbells or bands, that would help, but not necessary to start your program.

WHY

Exercise as Medicine is important because becoming stronger and more flexible is your investment in your future health. You want the ability to function comfortably so as to enjoy your life and your interactions with your loved ones.

HOW

I offer one-on-one as well as couples training both in person as well as online Zoom Trainings. The online trainings are especially popular and effective in lieu of the current lock downs and distancing laws.

ENHANCING SPORTS PERFORMANCE

When I first went to see Thomas Liberto, I suffered with problems breathing, difficulty side-stepping and pain in my knees, ankles, feet and shoulders. With my life goal becoming a professional boxer, you can see what limitations these challenges would be. Thomas eliminated my pain with Laser Therapy and Massage Therapy. He taught me specific exercise routines which improved my strength, flexibility and quickness. This greatly improved my self-confidence and ability to the point that, on April 27, 2019, I won the Florida Golden Gloves Championship in my 141 pound weight class. Thank you, Thomas!

  • I passed the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) Examination which qualifies me as an Internationally recognized NSCA-Certified Personal Trainer.

I have known Thomas Liberto for a decade now. I can tell you in all my years, I have not known many therapists that constantly study to improve their skills more than Thomas. I can say this from first-hand experience with Thomas.

Also, he has studied exercise and Functional Training under me for four years. I have witnessed his growth and improvement in his practical skills. Suffice it to say I consider Thomas’ clients truly blessed in having his level of care and commitment.
